PHILIPPINES - 4 days at El Nido.

Having lived and travelled in South East Asia since 1976 and having travelled extensively throughout the Philippine Islands, I consider that El Nido is the most beautiful and captivating destination for relaxation.

The islands of El Nido live up to ones expectations of a truly tropical island paradise. You can arrange with your resort to be taken to a tiny island with a perfect white sand beach, overhung with waving coconut palms, and you have the beach, if not the whole island, all to your self.

A picnic hamper will be provided and you can pre-arrange the time you would like to be collected and taken back to your resort.

The three resorts which we would recommend are Miniloc Island, the busiest of the resorts and the least expensive, offering over water cottages and some less expensive accommodations, Lagen Island, the best all round choice, unless you are looking for luxury, which has to be Pangalusian Island. Lagen Island offers some over water cottages, whilst Pangalusian Island offers villas scattered along a beautiful beach and some have private pools.

El Nido is not an inexpensive destination, primarily because access is by small private aircraft from Manila and all meals are included.

One can also approach El Nido by air from Puerto Princesa, Palawan, or through the village of El Nido, but long distance overland travel is required.

The best option is direct flight to El Nido from Manila. Graham Elsom MD, Concorde Travel
