Shanhai at night

Shanghai at night

Day 1     Depart Hong Kong

Depart Hong Kong by train mid afternoon. Be early as Chinese Customs and Immigration proceedures are carried out prior to departure.

Comfortable two berth compartments with a private washroom and toilet are available. There are also less expensive four and six berth compartments available.

Settle into your comfortable compartment and watch the world go by. Pass through the towering high rises of Kowloon, then pass through the modern satellite cities of the New Territories. Cross the border between the S.A.R and mainland China at Lowu.

The surprising, ultra-modern metropolis of Shenzhen appears as a mini Hong Kong. The economic boom in this region of China is very evident.

As the train passes through rural settlements which are being displaced by industry, enter the vast suburban sprawl that is the modern city of Guangzhou (formerly Canton).

After a simple meal in the Dining Car, retire to your compartment for a good night's sleep with the prospect of a fascinating tomorrow. Traverse the vast expanse of rural China and pass through Hangzhou before arriving in Shanghai in the morning.
